It is not hard to see how this would happen. A man's senses may mislead him. He sees the reflection of a bird in a pond. To his eyes it is a real bird. He touches it, HE PUTS IT TO THE TOUCH, and to his touch it is not a bird at all. It is real then, but surely not quite so real as a bird that you can touch. Again, he sees smoke. It is real to his eyes.英文原著 · 《Darwin and Modern Science》
But another pressed close and said, "Let me touch; for I am Talent. I can do all things--that have been done before. If I touch the child he shall not weep for failure."英文原著 · 《Dreams》
Fifthly, tendrils, whatever their homological nature may be, and the petioles or tips of the leaves of leaf-climbers, and apparently certain roots, all have the power of movement when touched, and bend quickly towards the touched side. Extremely slight pressure often suffices. If the pressure be not permanent, the part in question straightens itself and is again ready to bend on being touched.英文原著 · 《The Movements and Habits of Climbing Plants》
"Look up!" I whispered. "It is nothing; just be brave! I am with you."
She grew better; she was about to disengage herself from my arm, but I clasped her tender, soft figure in a still closer embrace; my cheek almost touched hers, from which was wafted flame. "What are you doing to me? Oh, Heaven!" . I paid no attention to her alarm and confusion, and my lips touched her tender cheek. She shud- dered, but said nothing. We were riding behind the others: nobody saw us.英文原著 · 《A Hero of Our Time》
"Quite new," she answered him--"quite new. And could I not have played it well and fairly, I would not have touched the cards. Keep your horse off, Sir John. Mine is restive, and likes not another beast near him;" and she touched the creature with her whip, and he was gone like a thunderbolt.英文原著 · 《A Lady of Quality》
She sprang up, touched the table, the dishes, the rug; she went to the bed and touched the blankets. She took up the soft wadded dressing-gown, and suddenly clutched it to her breast and held it to her cheek.英文原著 · 《A Little Princess》
