Gilding Solution.--To one pint of pure rain or distilled water add fifteen grains of pure chloride of gold, and to another pint add sixty grains of hyposulphite of soda. When dissolved, pour the gold solution into the hyposulphite by small quantities, shaking well after each addition. The soda solution must not be poured into the gold, as the gold would be immediately decomposed, and the solution turn black, and be unfit for use.英文原著 · 《American Hand Book of the Daguerreotype》
GLOSSARY 26. WE GAINED THE DAY BY THIS PIECE OF HONESTY.--In a dispute which occurred some years ago in Ireland, between Mr. and Mr. M., about the boundaries of a farm, an old tenant of Mr. M.'s cut a SOD from Mr. M.'s land, and inserted it in a spot prepared for its reception in Mr. E.'s land; so nicely was it inserted, that no eye could detect the junction of the grass. The old man, who was to give his evidence as to the property, stood upon the inserted sod when the VIEWERS came, and swore that the ground he THEN STOOD UPON belonged to his landlord, Mr.英文原著 · 《Castle Rackrent》
Granice moved away from the mantel-piece, and walked across to the tray set out with decanters and soda-water. He poured himself a tall glass of soda-water, emptied it, and glanced at Ascham's dead cigar.英文原著 · 《Early Short Fiction of Edith Wharton-Part 1》
I was not alone in the nomadic life that I led. There were hundreds of us drifting about in this fashion from one melancholy habitation to another. We lived as a rule two or three in a house, sometimes alone. We dined in the basement. We always had beef, done up in some way after it was dead, and there were always soda biscuits on the table. They used to have a brand of soda biscuits in those days in the Toronto boarding houses that I have not seen since. They were better than dog biscuits but with not so much snap. My contemporaries will all remember them.英文原著 · 《My Discovery of England》
The rain swept over them in waves, seemed to rise from the sod as well as to fall from the clouds. They made another five miles, ploughing through puddles and sliding over liquefied roads. Suddenly the heavy car, chains and all, bounded up a two-foot bank, shot over the sod a dozen yards before the brake caught it, then swung a half-circle and stood still. Enid sat calm and motionless.英文原著 · 《One of Ours》
As the marsh-hen secretly builds on the watery sod, [71] Behold I will build me a nest on the greatness of God: I will fly in the greatness of God as the marsh-hen flies In the freedom that fills all the space 'twixt the marsh and the skies: By so many roots as the marsh-grass sends in the sod I will heartily lay me a-hold on the greatness of God: Oh, like to the greatness of God is the greatness within The range of the marshes, the liberal marshes of Glynn.英文原著 · 《Select Poems of Sidney Lanier》
d Gloria it left at 11:00. *I'd rather live in his world* *than live without him in mine* Here you go. I didn't know what you wanted to drink, so I just got you this soda. That's fine. Thank you. Cam, what did you do? I did exactly what you did because I know you so well. I didn't shake the soda. Then you have nothing to worry about, so go ahead and open it. I shook it, okay? I shook the soda. I shook it up! Are you happy? It was petty and stupid and awful. I'm sorry. Damn it.美剧 · 《Modern Family》
Yep, but, uh, I went inside to get a soda because I was thirsty, and if I had a soda, I wouldn't be thirsty anymore.美剧 · 《Modern Family》
