So Margery watched. Her father took a handful of kernels, and, stooping, walked slowly along the line, letting the kernels fall, five or six at a time, in spots about a foot apart; he swung his arm with a gentle, throwing motion, and the golden seeds trickled out like little showers, very exactly. It was pretty to watch; it made Margery think of a photograph her teacher had, a photograph of a famous picture called "The Sower." Perhaps you have seen it.英文原著 · 《How To Tell Stories To Children》
A small grayish-brown brindle bird, relieved with touches of yellow on its back, wings, and tail, may be seen some winter morning roving on the lawn from one evergreen tree to another, clinging to the pine cones and peering attentively between the scales before extracting the kernels. It utters a call-note so like the English sparrow's that you are surprised when you look up into the tree to find it comes from a stranger. The pine siskin is an erratic visitor, and there is always the charm of the unexpected about its coming near our houses that heightens our enjoyment of its brief stay.英文原著 · 《Bird Neighbors》
"Hard texts are nuts (I will not call them cheaters) Whose shells do keep their kernels from the eaters; Ope then the shells and you shall have the meat; They here are brought for you to crack and eat."英文原著 · 《Bunyan Characters-2》
Traill asked him why he had let so valuable a man go, and the farmer replied at once that he was getting old and could no longer do the winter work. To any but a Scotchman brought up near the sheep country this would have sounded hard, but Mr. Traill knew that the farmers on the wild, tipped-up moors were themselves hard pressed to meet rent and taxes. To keep a shepherd incapacitated by age and liable to lose a flock in a snow-storm, was to invite ruin. And presently the man showed, unwittingly, how sweet a kernel the heart may lie under the shell of sordid necessity.英文原著 · 《Greyfriars Bobby》
Margery ran and brought the seed box, and found the package of corn. It looked like kernels of gold, when it was opened.英文原著 · 《How To Tell Stories To Children》
Country boys make a hole with their finger in the snow-crust just large enough to admit the jay's head, and, hollowing it out somewhat beneath, bait it with a few kernels of corn. The crest slips easily into the trap, but refuses to be pulled out again, and he who came to feast remains a prey.英文原著 · 《My Garden Acquaintance》
But there's a kernel of an idea that's grown.美剧 · 《Billions》
*We love our corn and we need our corn* *But for goodness sake I could just break it in pieces* *Would it be all right If I solved our plight?* *Maybe if I could find my old journals* *They'll help me to grind new kernels* *Aw, shucks!* *I have the willpower to create this mill tower* *We'll be quite a pair though I'll be my own scarecrow* *It's not just a phase* *This female inventor craze* *If it takes years or days* *I'm gonna solve this maize* *'Cause I was boooooorn* *For the cooooooooooorn* I'm sorry.美剧 · 《Bojack Horseman》
