DEMOPHON A temple of the gods is an asylum open to the world. COPREUS Maybe they will not take this view in Mycenae. DEMOPHON What! am I not lord of this domain? COPREUS So long as thou injure not the Argives, and if wise, thou wilt not. DEMOPHON Be injured for all I care, provided I sin not against the gods. COPREUS I would not have thee come to blows with Argos. DEMOPHON I am of like mind in this; but I will not dismiss these from my protection.英文原著 · 《THE HERACLEIDAE》
All the nations of America have a democratic state of society - Yet democratic institutions only subsist amongst the Anglo-Americans - The Spaniards of South America, equally favored by physical causes as the Anglo-Americans, unable to maintain a democratic republic - Mexico, which has adopted the Constitution of the United States, in the same predicament - The Anglo-Americans of the West less able to maintain it than those of the East - Reason of these different results.英文原著 · 《Democracy In America-1》
Demon speaks first of Friedrich's stature, 5ft. (as we know better than this Demon); "pretty well proportioned, not handsome, and even something of awkward (GAUCHE), acquired by a constrained bearing [head slightly off the perpendicular, acquired by his flute, say the better-informed]. Is of the greatest politeness. Fine tone of voice,--fine even in swearing, which is as common with him as with a grenadier," adds this Demon; not worth attending to, on such points.英文原著 · 《History of Friedrich II of Prussia V 16》

But that doctrine as to the necessity of smartness must be eschewed before a verdict in favor of American democracy can be pronounced. "It behoves a man to be smart, sir." In those words are contained the curse under which the States government has been suffering for the last thirty years. Let us hope that the people will find a mode of ridding themselves of that curse. I, for one, believe that they will do so.英文原著 · 《North America-2》
COPREUS For all that, I shall take and drag my own away. DEMOPHON Why then perhaps thou wilt find a difficulty in returning to Argos. COPREUS That shall I soon find out by making the attempt. DEMOPHON Touch them and thou shalt rue it, and that without delay. LEADER I conjure thee, never dare to strike a herald. DEMOPHON Strike I will, unless that herald learn discretion. LEADER Depart; and thou, O king, touch him not. COPREUS I go; for 'tis feeble fighting with a single arm.英文原著 · 《THE HERACLEIDAE》
