21st.--General Blakeney landed yesterday at Portsmouth, and came this evening to the 'White Hart.' A bonfire and illuminations. The mayor and magistrates went to pay their respects to him. I went into the room with them, and had two glasses of claret. Afterwards sat in the next room with Mellersh, Harbroe, Shotter, Horsenell, Elkins, Clifton, H. Parson, and Buckle, to drink his health, from 8 to half-past 10. Paid reckoning, 1s. Bonfire, 1d.英文原著 · 《Diary of William Bray》
But the flames of the bonfire caught the blinds of the professor's room, and set fire to the building, and came near burning up the whole institution. The following has been sung for a long series of years at Penzance and the neighbourhood, and is taken down from the recitation of the leader of a West-country choir. It is communicated to our pages by Mr.英文原著 · 《Ancient Poems》
Some weeks later there was a curious scene enacted at L'Abri. In the centre of the smoothly swept back yard was a great bonfire. Armand Aubigny sat in the wide hallway that commanded a view of the spectacle; and it was he who dealt out to a half dozen negroes the material which kept this fire ablaze.英文原著 · 《Awakening & Selected Short Stories》
